Fine Mexican Dining

There are a variety of wonderful places where to eat in Puerto Morelos. Long, lingering, lazy meals will be one of the highlights of your visit where you will find a range from cheap local places to world-class cuisine. Puerto Morelos is a native fishing village so when the menu states “Catch of the Day,” it really is! The restaurant owners, who take much pride in their establishments, are usually behind the stove or in some way overseeing your meal for that personal touch making your dining a genuine treat. No need to dress-up – strictly casual.

Take note that your waiter will not bring you the bill until you ask for it as it is considered rude and simply not done in Mexico so, ask for “La Cuenta Por Favor”. The bill includes the tax (IVA) but does not usually include the service (propina).  Since wages are low in Mexico, tipping 10-15% makes a big difference.

NIGHTLIFE in Puerto Morelos consists largely of eating out at one of the local restaurants while listening to live entertainment (jazz musicians, bands, etc.) or sitting at cafés taking in the Happy Hours at one of the few local bars. We are a very casual town so shirts and shoes in restaurants are expected of course and proper attire is expected if you are entering the church but, you won’t need a jacket and tie around here; however, running around town in your swim trunks will not make you popular… The town square is a social area to spend some time to stroll around.
